COMMENTS FROM THE BROKERING DESK...

Despite witnessing an emerging trend of the reversal of previous outsourcing initiatives, particularly of small HR and L&D teams, we continue to see a need from clients to partner with independents to meet overflow requirements.  This is particularly evident in training and facilitation work, specifically in areas requiring technical expertise.  We believe this is likely to continue as legislative changes and initiatives continue to play a key role in defining organisation L&D priorities.  We are also noticing an increase in marketing activity of independent consultants which indicates a steadying in client activity.  This may not necessarily indicate a slowing in the general consulting market but perhaps just a tightening of the belt as we approach financial year end - time will tell!  Consultants looking at their marketing activities are encouraged to read Reg Polson's article on 'marketing' in this edition (see below).  I look forward to chatting again in our next edition of Professional Edge.  Happy Consulting!
Deirdre

COMMENTS FROM THE RECRUITMENT DESK...

Is There Really a Drop in Vacancies?
Recent research has shown that there has been a drop of advertising in newspapers and the deduction has been made that there are less vacancies.  We are not so sure.  It is quite likely that organisations are using more alternative ways of reaching applicants.  Newspaper advertising is expensive, and organisations are keen to reduce recruiting costs as much as possible.  There is a much higher use of online services.  Informal and formal networks are also in high use.  This is one of the benefits in being members of professional bodies such as AHRI & AITD.  Search agencies, such as ourselves, are also active in approaching people in the profession who are known to have a good reputation or particular competency set.  All this activity happens under the radar, so just because newspaper advertising has dropped, it does not mean that there are fewer opportunities.

Placements - Congratulations to:
Tom Chapman on his appointment to Maura Fay Workshops as Manager, Consulting Services, NSW/ACT.  From Tactics, Tom has extensive consulting and design experience.
Hayley Caspers on landing the Trainer role at Maura Fay's Melbourne office.
Lysa Davey who has the exciting role at PPB, leaders in the Accounting field, in establishing the HR function for the group.  There was considerable competition for this role.

For more information on the HR Recruitment service, contact Reg on 9889-4455. To see what assignments we are currently working on, see our website: www.acetalentnet.com.au/recruitment
Kind Regards, Reg
