Happy New Year!

As we know  the business world is well renowned for it's ability to coin new words and phrases... and 2006 was no different.  The Australian Financial Review (13/1/07) reported that management preoccupations with themes centred around innovation and human capital.  2006 saw the word ''ëmployee" replaced 'with "talent" (of course!!!)
and the top 2006 buzzword issues were:

  1. engagement (labour productivity and high-performance workplaces)
  2. simulation training and acceleration centres for "virtual" CEOS
  3. corporate coaching
  4. talent time bomb
  5. balancing work and life
  6. diversity
  7. dashboard metrics (my personal fav)
  8. innovation in open-source
  9. living supply chain
  10. corporate "DNA" (another fav)
  11. evolution of corporate culture
  12. managing complexity
Not sure if you get 12/12 if you understood and have used all the above, or you get 12/12 if you didn't - will leave it to you to decide!!  Bring on the buzzwords for 2007!

Good to see the momentum gathered at the end of 2006 has carried through to 2007 with more interesting opportunities offered to experienced consultants so far this year.  As the school year starts and the workforce returns to 'normal', I expect activity will only increase.  One area of interest that is on the increase is mediation ... this is increasingly being seen by organisations as a critical management competency by assisting managers conduct difficult conversations and thus foster more productive and effective working relationships within their teams.  For more information read on below.
