COMMENTS FROM
THE HEAD DESK....
I can
hardly believe we are starting to make our preparations for Christmas
2005 - where did the last quarter go? Wait a minute I think I
know... between events on the world stage, both positive (Socceroos
World Cup qualifier win, All Black Tri-Nations win, royal births etc
etc) and not so positive (hurricanes, earthquakes, terrorism, bird flu,
Ashes Loss etc etc), trips back to NZ to catch up with family, training
for and running the Melbourne Half Marathon, and work, I have been kept
quite busy.
On the
work front, aCE talentNET has enjoyed some success in
introducing consultants to a new client, one of the largest public
companies in NZ. We have also continued to work closely with our
existing clients with the last quarter seeing a lot of activity around
instructional design (facilitator led and eLearning) and facilitation
(performance management, OD, work-life balance etc). We have,
at times, been frustrated with long lead times, particularly for larger
clients, as they work hard to secure budgets for large change management
projects, but pleasingly in almost all cases, it is not a matter if IF,
but a case of WHEN.
Behind
the scenes, Denise and I continue to explore new and exciting
improvements to the way we communicate with our consultants and while
not wanting to give anything away at this early stage, will say 'stay
tuned for aCE talentNETs launch of its new BLOG Forum!!!

In his "Essentials" series, the one on " talent " is of particular interest to us, and as a Consultant/Free Agent, we strongly suggest it should be to you too.

Knowledge@Wharton
have done a piece
on the sharing of intellectual capital in Consulting Firms. The
key idea is about how willingly consultants within organisations share
information. The researchers were surprised that few consultants
expected the favours would be returned, and were happy to share
knowledge with people they didn't even know. This is of course
within an organisation. And I'm aware that many independent
consultants maintain this habit in their own business.
How
are you managing knowledge, what ties are you maintaining to make sure
when you need some intellectual capital, you can draw on a bank? How do
you make deposits to that bank yourself when people you know ask for
some help?
And of course, what boundaries do you put around that, so that you're
not always giving away your advice for free?

quarterly survey of the management consulting industry. It's purpose is
to provide a barometer of the state of the consultancy market to
highlight the sectors showing the best potential for growth and to
single out any new opportunities or constraints likely to impact the
