Brett Minchington recently returned from presenting at the HR Summit held in Singapore and shared his experience with aCE talentNET

Over the past 12 months speaking in 10 country's on employer branding it is clearly evident that the topic is rapidly catching the attention of HR and Marketing professionals and my visit to Singapore provided an insight into the rate of adoption of the employer brand concept amongst companies.

Employer branding is at the 'awareness' stage and currently closely aligned to recruitment advertising/employer marketing. It appears to be at a similar stage to where it was in Australia in 2006. There is evidence in Asia that companies are beginning to invest in a more strategic approach to employer branding including employee and stakeholder research.

There were over 3500 delegates at the HR Summit and over the course of a couple of days I think I may have connected with hundreds of senior HR managers... it was exhausting, but provided some excellent insights into the challenges senior managers are facing in this region. Like many other country's the ageing population, increased job mobility, generational differences and the shortening of the talent supply is forcing managers to take a good strong look at their employment value propositions. Companies are starting to embrace the employer brand concept to provide long term talent acquisition and retention solutions.

Not only is Singapore one of the friendliness and most beautiful (not to mention the cleanest!) cities I have visited during my employer brand global tour, I found the managers much more open to discussing solutions rather than focusing on problems like I find in many other parts of the world. They may be late adopters but once they catch on they scale up very quickly which must send a warning to Australia companies where a lot of talent resides in the Asia-Pacific region...companies from other countries will be coming to recruit your top performers very soon!
